“That the generation to come might know, even the children yet to be born, that they may ARISE …” Psalm 78:6-7
Trinity Baptist has partnered with Cordova Elementary to help improve the reading skills of its second graders. Why second grade? Research tells us that students who can read on grade level by the end of third grade are more likely to graduate from high school!
During the 2015-16 school year Trinity volunteers helped twenty-eight second graders at Cordova Elementary improve their reading vocabulary. For the 2016-17 school year, we would love to be able to serve all second graders.
These second graders need you! No prior experience is necessary – just a willing spirit and the desire to help our children. Volunteering one hour per week during the school year, from mid-September to mid-April, will provide two children (30 minutes per child) with tutoring help on their sight words. All tutoring will be done during regular school hours.
Shelby County Schools will require new volunteers to attend a training session. They will also require a background check and fingerprinting for new volunteers.
